After moments of seemingly endless silence, Mikkikko let Massie's words sink in as she layed down beside him. Her pelt warmed his body cool from the night's chill. Her tail tapping against the earth was a beat in the symphony that the forest was providing to fill the quiet, preventing it from being awkward. When it seemed like she'd fallen asleep beside him, he turned to look at her. He could see his reflection in the bright pools of green that were her eyes. He couldn't help but smile weakly at his mate's tender gaze and caring expression. There was no one he'd ever rather be with then her. A weak purr erupted from the deep part of his throat. It was hard to purr when your throat felt as though it were on fire. He wanted to tell her how much he loved her, and how much he enjoyed her company. She helped more then she realized. But Mikkikko could never seem to put it into words.

Almost instinctively, Massie turned to meet Mikkikko's gaze. She surveyed him in silence for a long moment, before returning his smile warmly. The soft night wind brushed against her, ruffling the calico patterned fur slightly. But the loner didn't seem to notice, or if she did, this almost relaxed her even more. As her mate purred softly from beside her, Massie sighed. The meaning behind the single sound was clear, in that way the two had of communicating at times and in places like these. Peacefully, she tucked her paws under her, her own soft purr emitting from deep in her throat. "I love you." Three simple words, although the emotion behind them was much more. Glancing at Mikkikko once more, she smiled again before turning her gaze to the starry night sky. The bright white light reflected in her gaze which held a tranquil emotion. Life was sometimes cruel, as it had been recently...but at times like these, Massie was glad to be alive anyway.
