Do it!
Mikkikko stared over the edge of the cliff beyond the trickling stream. The very same one he and Massie had been to not a week ago. His legs were rigid and his eyes were narrowed dangerously. The wind that was picking up tore at his fur, unravling it so.
It's the only way. You're only good dead.
Mikkikko's ears flattened and his eyes closed, as if that would stop the hissing voice. The one that haunted him not only in his sleep, but now in his wake as well.
You hurt the ones you love.
It said, unstaggering, stubbornly, persuasivly... Mikkikko shook his head and gritted his teeth. He couldn't stand the voice. He couldn't stand the dreams. Not anymore. He couldn't hurt his family, or his mate, or his clan.
They'll all die if you don't.
It hissed, even more perservering. The voice now overlapped itself, saying too many things at once for him to comprehend. Finally, he couldn't take it. ALRIGHT! he screamed silently. It's the only way the voice will leave. It's the only way Massie will be safe. he thought sadly. It if was the only way, he knew he had to. Why did he feel so much regret? He was doing the right thing, wasn't he? Taking a very shaky breath, he closed his eyes and leaned back on his haunches, ready to spring. It would only work if he threw himself over. If he tried to walk, he would most definatly chicken out.

She had followed him quickly, and anything but silently. Yowling his name desperately, Massie had bounded after Mikkikko, her fear rising as he led her to this very spot. Perhaps he just needed to be alone to think, or maybe he was leading her up here to apologize. Desperately, the calico scrambled up the slope, not wasting any time using the grace that she usually so carefully moved with. By the time she had reached the top of the cliff, Massie was panting slightly. She looked around frantically, her green eyes wide in an attempt to seek out the rusty pelt of her mate... And then, there he was: Mikkikko stood, a silent figure, gazing over the cliff. Massie froze...he wouldn't...he couldn't! Pelt bristling, she stood, unaware of what to do. If she tried leaping at him, she could knock them both over... And then, he was crouching, in the way a hunter would when seeking a mouse. He was going to spring...and Massie felt her heart stop. "Mikkikko!" She choked out, and for the life of her, couldn't figure out how she had managed to sound so loud, for her throat felt dry and tight. "Mikkikko, don't! Please!" Half-afraid that her voice would only urge him over, Massie took a step forward. She tilted her head, alarmed and slightly confused. "Why are you doing this?"
Her voice nearly drowned out by the winds that were beginning to blow in warning of the sudden storm, Massie could only stand and watch, terrified.

Mikkikko tried to swallow, but his throat was so tight that it hurt. His eyes clenched closed like that of a two-legs angry fist. He tried to remember. He tried to remember why. He could see Leafwhisper, his sister. And Zen. Oh how angry Zen had always been. His father, pathetically sticking up for his kits just to watch them crumble beneath his paws. It was all an act. Evira, whom had disappeared, leaving behind her kits with their uncaring father. And Massie. Dear sweet Massie. This was why. He was doing it for her. He had to, before she ended up in a position she can't escape as well. Or worse, dead. What would he do if she were to die, all because of him. He had to do it. It was the only way...
His thoughts became so real that he could almost smell her sweet scent. And now he could hear her voice. But wait, he wasn't imagining that, was he? He opened his eyes and looked over his shoulder to find Massie a few fox-lengths away at the edge of the forest. "Mikkikko, don't! Please!" she was saying. "Why are you doing this?" He reflected. Hadn't he just been thinking that he was doing this for her? As he gazed into her desperate eyes, realization dawning that this, this, would hurt her worse then anything else possibly could. So why was he doing this? "I... I don't... I don't know anymore."
The ruddy tom cat was in no way aware of the great force lurking, waiting for something to go wrong so it would have to shove the cat over the edge itself. Out of the blue the cat came, a mere gust of wind that seem to leap onto the BloodClan warrior and push him from beneath his paws. He staggered and stumbled until he reached the cliffs edge and was suddenly over it! Mikkikko let out a low yowl of surprise and grasped for a hold as he cascaded down the rocky edge.
His body lerched, landing on a rocky stem and flopping down to the next. The warrior's claws suddenly caught hold of a loose rock. It broke beneath his weight, and he caught the closest one down a few mouse lengths. He gasped for air, trying to catch his breath, looked down, then looked up. His hind paws struggled to find footing but to no avail. He was stuck, the only way out was down as far as he could tell. His amber gaze searched the ridge for Massie's figure.

For a moment, Mikkikko seemed to pause, and a desperate hope fluttered inside Massie. Perhaps he wouldn't jump, perhaps she could talk him out of it...but then, all at once, before she could speak or move, a gust of wind came out of nowhere. Or at least...it seemed to. It hadn't seemed to have(-Senses bad grammar but doesn't care-) effected anything else near the cliff's peak except the ruddy tom himself. The loner could only watch the scene dizzily as Mikkikko was pushed, against his will, over the edge. Massie choked back a cry as she watched, her calico body rigid. She couldn't even manage to choke out a desperate cry, but stood, frozen to the spot.
No...NO!
That couldn't have just happened! As if to deny it, Massie suddenly came back to her senses, and bounded over to the cliff. Unsure of what she was looking for, she desperately looked down, as if hoping to spot her mate's red form. But then, to her surprise...a few rabbit-lengths down, Mikkikko was clinging to the cliff-side! He looked afraid, as if now, he didn't actually want to fall. Panic rose in the she-cat for a split second, but she didn't let it take over for long. She had to help him! Desperately racking her mind in search of any ideas, Massie stood by the cliff, her tail thrashing wildly in frustration. He was too far to pull up, she probably wouldn't be able to reach that far. But, if she had something longer... a sudden idea occurred to Massie.
"Just hold on!" She yowled to Mikkikko desperately, whipping around and bounding over to the woodland border where the rocks ended and the trees began, where the path up to this very spot had led. Searching frantically, she soon found a long, thick, broken branch. It'd have to do. Grabbing the thing between her teeth, she skidded around and raced back to the cliff-side. "Grab this!" Massie hissed, although the call was a little muffled seeing as she was holding the branch between her teeth. Hoping against hope that this would work, she gingerly lowered her head so that the branch would reach toward Mikkikko.
OOC//Gah, It sucks and is totally unrealistic but hey, this is Warriors >< Whatever xPP

>> xD this okay, mine are all sucky anyway. When his amber gaze rested on the all-too-familiar form of his mate, he almost sighed with relief. She was still at the top and safe, which meant she hadn't tried to go after him. "Just hold on!" she said, fear clearly visable in her green eyes. The calico disappeared. What was I thinking? he screamed in his head. Why couldn't I see? Mikkikko knew how much this would have hurt both him and Massie. He couldn't believe he had been so close to actually leaping over the cliffs edge purposly. It wasn't like him to even consider something like that. But ever since....
Leafwhisper! That was the answer! Whatever had coaxed him to the cliff and had toppled him over it forcefully was playing on his guilt! He was using guilt to bring out worry, the worry to bring out fear and anger! He wished so much that he could strangle whatever had done this to him, whatever had turned him from a quiet young warrior with ambition and drive to the coward that had almost tried to commit suicide. But there was no way he could.
Massie had brought him out of the spell. She'd tried to be there for him through the entire ordeal. She'd spoke logic and sense when he could only hear the worst. It was thanks to her that he had finally come to his senses. Wait. Where was Massie? What was taking her so long? Had that thing nabbed her to? He yowled, almost angrily as if he were trying to drive fear into the spirit that had shoved him over. "Massie!" He wasn't pathetic anymore. He wasn't scared. He was mad. He would find a way to make whoever it was that did this to him pay. But right now, he needed to make sure Massie, and he, would live through it.
The loner appeared over the edge again, this time with a long brach that reached past Mikkikko when held over the ledge. Massie told him to grab a hold. He looked up at her doubtfully. Surely that thing couldn't hold his weight. It would just bring Massie over with him. Even if it could, how would he get back up? She couldn't drag it. But Mikkikko decided to try, for her sake. He grabbed a hold of the branch and clawed his way up until his paws felt rock beneath them. Now he could try to climb up. He sunk his teeth into the bark and used it as an anchor to try to help him keep his balance while he slowly climbed up the ridges side.

OOC// This is Roxie, xDD I'm so lazy and it's just easier this way then switching between accounts. So, yeah. As she lowered the branch down to him, Massie looked deeply into her mate's eyes. She saw the fear and realization, even anger in them, but she also saw his doubt. Mikkikko clearly didn't know if her plan would work, and, she realized, he was reflecting her own fear. But the femme was desperate, and she wasn't going to be picky. She had to take any opportunity to save her mate, or else lose him to the steep slopes. And Massie couldn't loose him. A spark of gratitude lit in her green eyes as he accepted the attempt. She pulled gently back on the branch, or began to, but this was before Mikkikko started climbing. She paused, realizing that he was right. If she could just hold her ground, this would be their best bet. Digging her claws into the grit of the rocky cliff-edge, the loner tightened her jaws against the branch, and waited. Time seemed to pass in slow motion as Mikkikko began to climb, and with every move he made, Massie felt as if her heart was skipping a beat. In those few moments, she feared nothing as much as her fear to see him lose his grip and topple over the cliff's edge.

It was working! Just a few more steps. He was so... ah! A rock broke beneath his paw and his grip on the branch tightened as he slid down. But he caught himself. With a gasp of relief and a grunt of effort, he climbed the rest of the way to the top and over it. In order to get on the ledge again, since there wasn't enough footing to just climb, he had to jump. It was risky but he knew it would be worth it if he survived. If not, well, he'd worry about that later. He leaped, but when he landed it was so close to Massie that the whole fronts of their bodies touched: chests, noses, foreheads, and paws. Losing his balance because he was still so close to the cliff's rocky edge, he toppled forward, almosting knocking them both backwards. They were still nearly as close. >>Cheesy line to come!!>>
He gazed into her fearful eyes which now were spreading with relief and affection as much as his. It was then he realized he had been holding his breath. He could have sworn that all the while he'd been hanging over the cliff his heart had frozen to a stop. But now, he heard his heartbeat. And then he heard hers. That smile, that crooked smile of his, spread across his face and a mischievious, but meaningful, gleam held in his eyes. Then he uttered the three words he had for so long wanted to say but hadn't: "I love you." >>Haha! The ultimate cheesyness!>>

It was over. In seconds, the terror and trauma was over. Massie was so relieved to see her mate alive that she relished the moment in which he stumbled close against her. She stood, taking the handsome ruddy tom in for a long moment, relief and joy as well as love spreading through her leaf-green gaze. In fact, the loner was nearly trembling with the relief that washed over her body like a wave from RiverClan's river now, and as Mikkikko said those three, meaningful words to her, for a moment, she was speechless. The world around the two seemed to melt away as Massie, still tensed, finally let out a long sigh of relief. Her gaze never leaving Mikkikko's, she allowed a loud purr to emerge from the back of her throat.
"I love you too," She meowed, her voice barely above a whisper, as if this moment were tangible, fragile, and she didn't want to break it. And then, all at once, Massie pressed her muzzle gently into her mate's russet fur, taking in his scent as if she still couldn't believe that those moments of horror were all over. "And I never want to come that close to losing you again." She added quietly, emotion edging these words as she spoke them shakily. Massie was a very independent cat, and she liked to think that she never depended on anyone. But depending and needing are too different things, and in those moments, Massie learned that she needed Mikkikko more than anything else in the world.

Mikkikko let his breathing ease back into normality, breathing through his parted jaw as Massie snuggled close to him. He licked her shoulder twice, flattening the ruffled bits of calico fur. "I hope you won't have too." he finally agreed. He nuzzled her, but didn't step back. "I'm... sorry for... all of this. I really don't know what I was doing... or even thinking." he appologized. "I'm so sorry."
His fur was ruffled a bit by the light breeze that had since returned to its former state. The trees just starting to green and bloom bent and twined branches, scratching each other ever so lightly. The sun was rising higher and higher, since it had only been dawn when Mikkikko had first stood there, gazing over the cliff thinking unthinkable thoughts.
It was a surprise how much could change in such a short amount of time. But it was a wonderful one. A real miracle, one that had led Mikkikko to Massie in the first place. He knew just how lucky he was that at least one thing was on his side. He gazed down lovingly at his mate. Or maybe two. >>Awwwwww that sucked almost as bad as the old LP posts! I think they're affecting me! NO MORE MEMORY FLASH-BACKS WHEN RPING!!! lol jks.

Massie listened quietly to these words, and when Mikkikko had finished, she pulled away. Not far, no, she still sat before him, enjoying the warmth of his company. But now, she looked at him with soft, questioning eyes. Right now, the loner was far too relieved to be angry. "You really scared me." She murmured softly, and these words were the truth if not an understatement. Massie doubted if she had ever been more afraid in her life, except for maybe after her brother had been murdered, leaving Massie, who was already orphaned, alone in Loner territory at four moons old. "I don't know what I would do if..."
She began as her thoughts wandered to these memories. Mikkikko was the best thing in her life, and she had rarely appreciated it before this. Still, Massie cut herself off. It was over after all, and they should just be happy. And the calico loner believed that her ruddy mate wasn't himself when he stood at the edge of that cliff. "It's alright," Massie said breathlessly after a moment. "It's over." There words were meant to re-assure both Mikkikko and herself.
It's over.
Still, one thing hadn't been resolved, and it was still nagging at her mind. For some time before this, Mikkikko had been acting strangely, and it had worried her. Tonight, her fears had been confirmed. Massie just had to know what had done this to him, what had pushed him so far, for this honestly wasn't like her mate.
"But...Mikkikko...I have to know: Why? What made you try to do this to yourself?" Massie asked tentatively, softly. Maybe right after it had happened wasn't the best time to discuss it, but she had a right to know!...Didn't she?

The waking world seemed quieter then usual, only the serene sounds of the forest in the background. Mikkikko could not feel more alive, or more glad to be. It had been the lowest point, and he intended it to forever more be the lowest point of his entire life. He would never fall that low again he silently swore to himself. The tom didn't even know how he could have been so... so blind!
Massie gazed up at his towering form, meeting his gaze. How her eyes sparkled in the sunlight, reflecting the image of himself and the sky. She was so beautiful and wonderful, and so forgiving. She had changed so much over their time together. Massie had once been sharp-tongued, and hated every fiber of BloodClan. Mikkikko had used to be a quiet and proud apprentice with a good heart. Mikkikko had grown up a bit, he was still quiet, and though his pride had been diminished for a little while, it would return. His heart was even more pure then before, but now he was different. Some how, he was. And he had Massie to thank for it all.
How cheesy come something sound? Oh that just about covers it, but Mikkikko's affection for the calico loner couldn't have been greater then at that moment, because now he really appreciated her, and was grateful to her for both saving and changing his life. I know it's corny, but he truely wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her.
When Massie replied, Mikkikko listened intently. He nodded, an appologetic look in his ember eyes. He had never meant to hurt her the way he had, scaring her so bad. "It's over." "It's over." the BloodClanner echoed, realizing something. For the first time in a long while, the voice was gone. It's really over. he thought. He smiled broadly. All the better, too. His gaze reverted to his mate again, the usual mischievious glint returning to his eyes. But it was quickly replaced with a questionable look.
"But... Mikkikko... I have to know: Why" What made you try to do this to yourself?" And to you. he added silently. He remembered what he'd been thinking about, hanging over that edge, his adrenaline racing. "I think... I think it was guilt." he replied, slowly at first. "I've been having these... nightmares. They started when Leafwhisper died. I'd already been feeling so low, so depressed. A voice... starting talking to me, telling me that... it was all my fault." As he spoke, he was realizing how dead-on he was for the first time, as if figuring it out himself. "And, it told me that... that if I didn't do something... it I didn't do something like this... kill myself... then it would be you next." While speaking his eyes had settle on the scene of the forest behind Massie, over her head. Now he looked back at her, to see her reaction to this new information.
